SOVA’s Foundation-Year Program is designed around an integrated curriculum based on learner-centred philosophies that recognize each student as a complete individual with their own distinct cultural experiences. The studio and humanities courses, combined with regular interactions with visiting artists, curators, writers and filmmakers, ensure that students develop a thorough understanding of professional-level cultural production.

The combination of academic and practical experiences that students acquire at SOVA provides excellent preparation for applied artistic endeavours, or for pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. Students who wish to continue on to BFA programs will benefit from SOVA’s articulation agreements with top art schools across the country. These agreements give graduates the opportunity to transfer directly into the second year of BFA programs at Emily Carr University of Art+Design (Vancouver), OCAD University (Toronto), NSCAD University (Halifax), or the Alberta College of Art+Design (Calgary).
