This undergraduate-level English course will focus on how language can be used as part of an artist’s creative and professional development. Through class discussions, close readings, written assignments, and writers’ workshops, students will develop the skills necessary for writing about art. In addition to writing artist statements, an exhibition review, and grant applications, students will explore how a range of contemporary visual artists incorporates literary work into visual art practice. The course includes a research paper and a final exam.
Successful completion of English 120: Reading, Writing, Creating, or permission of the instructor .
