In this course, we will focus on how words can be used as part of your creative and professional development. Through our readings, class discussions and course assignments, you will develop the skills necessary for writing about art. The course will also examine the multifaceted array of written criticism, which will provide you with the opportunity to be an active participant in the current public written discourse on contemporary art, design, and culture. We will also explore how words are used in visual practices, such as graffiti, photography, theatre, film, graphic novels and commercial marketing. Ultimately, the goal is for each student to complete this class with a written professional portfolio to compliment and enhance their visual art portfolio.
